Children’s Ministry

We believe that the many children who attend Grassroots Church are our greatest responsibility and resource. They are ours to shelter and encourage as well as our teachers in the faith. In order to plant and nurture seeds of faith in our children, we believe that the church needs to work closely with its families.

Families steward the ancient movement of keeping faithfulness alive in your little people:

“Hear, O Israel, The Lord is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”  (Deut. 6.4-8).

Here’s what kind of help Grassroots wants to offer you.

Roots and Shoots: Staff are designing a phenomenal worship experience for your kids (ages 0-grade 3), every Sunday from 10:30-11:45. This year kids will learn about Jesus’s Lordship and have a chance to pray and respond to his presence in their lives, creatively.

Every Sunday morning during the fourth worship song, children are guided to their own spaces to join in the Roots & Shoots program. Our leaders and assistants provide age-appropriate activities designed to help the kids focus on Jesus and get to know Him through study, prayer, and reflection. For Kindergarten, Gr 1-3, and Gr 4-6 students we offer this structured environment with stimulating lessons that encourage questions and spiritual growth. The children are encouraged to reflect, listen to what God wants to say to them, and experience God’s grace on a personal and community level.

The nursery and pre-school rooms offer a safe, welcoming space for children ages 0 – 3 years old. Each space is full of toys and books meant to engage the children.

Roots and Shoots Transition Group: Every Sunday from 10:30-11:45, all 4-6 graders will be led through a transition group as they prepare to enter the adult community of worshippers.  These kids will learn about Jesus’s Lordship and then learn why we worship, listen to sermons, and take communion as a community.  They will talk through how to worship God through singing, sitting peacefully, looking through their Bibles during a sermon, listening to a sermon, and praying during and after communion.

Weekend Day Camps: On Sat, Sept 30 and Sat, Nov 25 we are running 2, one-day camps for kids, which will run simultaneously with our Adult Seminar Series. For the first day camp (Sept 30), kids will have some fun, and learn about the Bible, hear about how to read it and why it is holy. The adult seminar is called “The Authority of Scripture.”  On Nov 25 kids will have some fun and learn how to pray.  The Adult seminar is called “Christian Praying.” Please email to sign up your kids and to hear about more details.

Faith at Home:Finally, staff are working on some resources to help you talk in your home about God and about following his ways.  Amy Baker and Eve Jagger will be in touch with you on a periodic basis offering you stories, reflections, and resources to practice your faith in your family life.

Finally, to make this all possible, we get to join in together as a church family.  We strongly encouraging all parents who have kids in Roots and Shoots to worship with GR kids on Sunday mornings every 6 weeks or so. You will join in as an assistant to the leader of any particular room. Assistants will volunteer in a class about once every 6 weeks, providing crowd control during the mini-sermon and helping to pass out materials as needed. You will get more out of these times spiritually than you may at first think, and you will bless the kids with your presence.

As always, there is gentleness in this, and we know that some folks simply can’t serve for legitimate reasons. If it is, “I don’t like other people’s kids” and “I don’t want to miss adult worship”, we might have a brief conversation with me so we can hear you out.

Please email to sign up for your assignments.

May the Lord bless you as you bring up your little ones in the faith, and may He bless Grassroots as we teach our little ones how to help restore faith in God in their friends, as they become inspirational disciples, and as they learn to shelter the vulnerable in the world.

The Kingdom of heaven belongs to these,
