Bible Text: Phil. 4:13 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy A look at Jeremy Cowart's inspiration video of what he did with the gifts and resources given to him by God. This message included watching this video created around the theme of "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." One of the main ways we tap into joy is by doing meaningful work with the resources we're given by God. Take a look at the video below.
Bible Text: Phil. 4:6-14 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy Paul said he had learned to be content in any circumstance (vs. 11). Clearly this contentment is based on his relationship with Christ, as indicated throughout this letter. However, try as we might, most of us followers of Jesus can't say the same thing. Circumstances tend to dictate our contentment - how can we cultivate a life of contentment that doesn't depend on each moment? Paul provides three instructions for the Christian that can be used to develop a disposition of joy and contentment in our lives.
Bible Text: Phil. 3:7-11 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy We're all looking for worth, significance and a sense of validation and when we don't find it in Christ, we look anywhere else that might offer some cheap substitute. Paul considered all of this a loss - it was garbage - compared to knowing Christ. When we can trust in the worth that God gives us, we experience the joy that comes with it.
Bible Text: Phil. 3:1-4 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy We all belong to different tribes - our family, our country, our church, etc. - but our affiliation with these groups should never serve as a hindrance to those who want to know Jesus. Paul offers a warning to "beware of those dogs" who try to add hoops to jump through in order to be loved by God. Such tribal thinking both on our part and on our insistence that others follow us will steal joy from us.
Bible Text: Phil. 2:14-18 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy Paul admonishes the church at Philippi to not grumble and complain which would cause these "children of God" to stand out from a "crooked and warped generation." Sounds lovely doesn't it? We admit it's easier said than done, but how can we begin to have an awareness of this tendency that many of us have toward grumbling and complaining?
Bible Text: Philippians 2 | Speaker: Rob Freeman | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy Although it seems like having all our desires met should lead to joy, this is often not the case. In this sermon, Rob explores the role relationships have in bringing joy to our lives, and to others.
Bible Text: Phil. 1:3-6 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy It's easy to be discouraged in our faith. Doubts. Fears. Failure. We look at when we first started following Jesus and can struggle to see anything "good" he's doing in us. Paul's work in Philippi resulted in a partnership in the gospel that yielded much needed financial support months later. This action gave Paul the confidence that God was at work in the Philippians... and it gave him great joy.
Bible Text: Phil. 1:1-3 | Speaker: Steven Bill | Series: Philippians - Tapping Into Joy Grace and peace are used by Paul to begin each of his letters. They are more than just a greeting, though. The idea of seeking grace and peace sets the context for Paul's entire ministry and is where his joy begins. But how can we be given over to grace? One way is through knowing the story of brokenness that precedes each of us.
