Bible Text: Matthew 2:1-23 | Speaker: Keith Jagger | Series: Gifts Of Devotion In the second of four sermons on the gifts of the Magi, Pastor Keith explores devotion to Jesus enhanced by knowing his identity. Gold for his kingship. Frankincense for his divinity. Myrrh for his destiny. Grounding these symbols in ancient cultural expectations, we are challenged to create a space on Christmas day that allows us to express our devotion to Jesus. To do so, we replace our devotion to other lords (e.g. materialism, technology, celebrity, etc.) with our love for Jesus.
Bible Text: Matthew 2:1-23 | Speaker: Keith Jagger | Series: Gifts Of Devotion In the first of four Christmas sermons on the gifts of the Magi, Pastor Keith presents devotion to Jesus as our way home out of slavery. Setting the story up in its historical drama of warring Romans and a sly Herod, we find Mary and Joseph immersed in a universe awaiting its true King. The Magi, who made their way to Jesus, show us how to be devoted. They were present to the mysteries of creation, invested themselves in their journey, kneeled to worship Jesus, and showed great loyalty by disobeying Herod.
