Your child’s safety and protection matter most.
We get it. This world is broken and there are no shortage of concerns when it comes to our kids’ safety and protection. Grassroots Church takes safety and protection seriously and realize you are putting a lot of trust into us when you place your child under our care. Accordingly, any volunteer who works with vulnerable people groups (including children) undergo a background check, a vulnerable sector check with the police and have completed and maintain updated training with Plan to Protect.
Plan to Protect provides the HIGHEST STANDARD of abuse prevention and protection for organizations serving the vulnerable sector. Grassroots Church adheres to this standard of protection, ensuring your kids are safe and secure.
Children’s Ministry
We take our youth at Grassroots as one of our greatest privileges and responsibilities. Our goal is to help kids establish their relationship with God, prepare in them the foundations of our Christian faith, and help them get ready to become fuller participants in the worshipping community.
Roots and Shoots is one of our most vibrant places of ministry. After worshipping with their parents, kids head back to their children’s worship time for the remainder of the service. Parents bring babies and preschoolers back to the nursery and preschool room, while K-6 meet their teachers in the back of the church. More than a Sunday School, Roots and Shoots is designed as a space where kids encounter Jesus and learn about God’s great story, without pressure.
Each Sunday in Roots & Shoots begins with an introduction: A long time ago, God wanted his people who loved him to write down his story. We call this great story The Bible. It’s filled with history and adventure stories, poems and songs, sadness and happiness, children and grown-ups, heroes and also many people who made big mistakes. All the stories before Jesus was born pointed the way to him. When we look at Jesus, we can see just what God his father is like and how much he loves each one of us. Jesus is the answer to all our questions about what God is like. He is love. He is peace. He makes all things right.
In the Fall of 2023, Grassroots adopted a new curriculum to implement in our Roots & Shoots programming. The following is adapted from the Shine curriculum website:
Shine…
- calls children to experience the transforming power of God’s love and shine God’s light in the world;
- nurtures trust in God and invites children to follow Jesus;
- encourages imaginative, interactive biblical storytelling; explores the meaning of the Bible within the gathered community;
- cultivates the inner life of the Spirit through spiritual practices;
- expresses faith through lives of compassionate peacemaking and service.

Grassroots Youth Group (GYG)
Grade 7 to 12? Keep reading…
GYG meets weekly during the school year. Our events will typically be outside of the 1250 Balmoral St. and will be listed on our church calendar (that you can subscribe to) and posted on our socials and newsletter ahead of time.
Usually, we meet on Mondays from 7-9pm but occasionally we will meet on a weekend afternoon for a hike or other fun outdoor activity. A GYG activity typically consists of a fun activity, snack and a time of singing and devotional. All youth in grades 7-12 are welcome to join, regardless of faith or church background!
